Celebrate Australia Day!


Australia Day in Parkes

It will be a full day again as the Parkes community joins together to celebrate and share the stories that come from our diverse backgrounds and experiences. Each story forms a part of our great Shire.


What’s happening
Saturday 22 January

The program of events kicks off with racing at Parkes Jockey Club, 12PM – 8PM  including the Australia Day Cup.


Tuesday 25 January  7pm-9pm

Postcards from Parkes exhibition and light refreshments to welcome our Australia Day Ambassador Jane Rutter at the Coventry Room.


Wednesday 26 January

7am-9am – Celebrations continue on Australia Day with a community walk starting at 7am at Cooke Park followed by a free breakfast.


7AM – 1PM – 4 Ball Best Ball (4BBB) at Parkes Golf Club.


7.30AM – 11AM – Over the Hill, kites of all sizes and shapes will be flying high at Northparkes Oval.


9AM – 3.30PM – Social bowls and matches at the Railway Bowling Club – visitors welcome.


10.00AM – All Australian Car Display at Cooke Park.


10AM-5PM – Mini carnival at Parkes Bowling and Sports Club. $20 per player, includes a barbeque lunch.


10.30AM – Live entertainment by the Parkes Shire Band at Cooke Park.


11AM – Official Ceremony at Cooke Park including the address by Ambassador Ms Jane Rutter, presentation of Citizen of the Year, Community, Cultural and Sporting Awards.


2PM – 6PM – Make a splash at the Parkes Aquatic Centre with free entry from 2pm until 5pm.


5PM – 9PM  – Enjoy the setting sun at the Parkes Showground with the Harness Racing and the return of the infamous Golden Yabby Races at 7.15pm (registration 6pm – 6.45pm).


6PM – 7.30PM – Croquet on the Green – come and play Aussie Pirates at the Parkes Bowling & Sports Club, equipment provided.


Saturday 29 January

6.30pm Australia Day Celebrations Multicultural Dinner at Bushman’s Motor Inn hosted by the Rotary Club of Parkes. RSVP to Robert on 0427 627 244.

COVID-19 guidelines & restrictions will be in place. Please note all guests will be asked to sign in, practice physical distancing & encouraged to wear a mask. If you have any flu like symptoms please stay home & get tested.


Australia Day Township Events

Peak Hill – Memorial Park and Pool

7.30AM Join the community breakfast at Memorial Park.

8AM Official Ceremony – Australia Day Ambassador will be in attendance for the presentation of official awards which will be followed by the awarding of Best Aussie Outfit and Best Aussie Hat.

2PM Make a splash at Peak Hill Pool with free entry from 2pm and a free sausage sizzle at 5.30pm.


Tullamore – Memorial Park and Pool

Due to the tragic start to 2022 in Tullamore, there will be no Australia Day Ceremony this year. The flags will be raised in recognition of Australia Day.

2PM – 6PM Make a splash at the Tullamore Pool with free entry from 2pm.


Trundle – Berryman Oval and Pool

7.30AM Join the community breakfast at Berryman Oval.

9AM The Official Ceremony commences with the flag raising at 9am, followed by the presentation of Citizen and Sporting awards.

2PM – 6PM Make a splash at the Trundle Pool with free entry from 2pm.


Bogan Gate – Memorial Park & Bogan Gate Hall

7.30AM – Flag Raising in Memorial Park, followed by welcome and the presentation by special guest, Adam Courtenay.


8AM  – Free breakfast in the Hall, followed by fun competitions and presentation of Australia Day Certificates.
