Clean Up Australia’s mission is to inspire and empower communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment. Clean Up Australia works nationally with communities, businesses, schools and youth groups to remove rubbish from the environment.
It started in 1989 when Ian Kiernan AO organised a clean up in his own backyard – Sydney Harbour. The campaign has grown from 300,000 volunteers in 1990 for the first Clean Up Australia Day to 30 million people in 80 countries for Clean Up the World, after gaining the support of the United Nations Environmental Programme.
